I spent my last week of 2005 in the land where i'll never die of hunger....Penang...the island of glorious food.

It was bright & sunny when we reached Penang bridge (i'm sorry it doesn't look so with my lousy camera phone pic)

this is my Grandma's front door :)
When some people heard i was goin to Penang...this was what they told me...
Wilson said, "Spare no char kuey teow stalls!!!"
My cousin Pei Ling who was in Penang the week before told me, " tapau back some char kuey teow with BIG BIG prawns for me!!!"
FYI, Penang is not all about char kuey teow alone!!! but for the sake of you char kuey teow freaks...
Here's a plate of Lorong Selamat's Char Kuey Teow with BIG BIG prawns

Swattow Lane's Ice Kacang can cool me down anyday :) they are pretty generous with the atapche

u haven't eaten popiah until u have tried Padang's famous crab meat popiah...i went 4 times in one week!!!
I gobbled the rest of the food faster than i could take a pic...but here's a list of recommended Penang food...(i ate them all by the way *burp*)
- Padang's Lok Lok
- Anson Road's Duck Meat Kuey teow
- Kampung Malabar's lobak
- New Lane's Oh Jien (fried oyster)
- Ayer Itam's Mee Rebus
- Fettes Park's Sirloin Steak
- Burmah Road's Sar Hor Fun
- Pulau Tikus' Nyonya style Nasi Lemak
& while my Dad was away at his meeting, my Grandmother insisted that she drove me & my mum around...

at 80, my Grandmother drives faster than most people i know!!! My Grandma is one mean driver!! How fast does your Grandma drive??

beautiful view from my aunt's apartment...those are sampans afloat (not rubbish like how my phone depicts them)

Visited relatives. this is Kwai Po...she's really good at cooking.

this antique spiral staircase i saw in a temple along Anson Road is really pretty. it's 2 storeys high & there was an identical one at the other end of the hall.

if sightseeing & food isn't your thing, how bout cheap ( i think cheap maybe an understatement!) dvds? they range from Breakfast in Tiffany's to Saturday Night Fever to King Kong.
I spent my new years with family. A quiet one after so many years, it was nice. We all went out for dinner, drove around, watched the fireworks & managed to avoid the mad traffic jams thankfully.
It was a blissfully relaxing week in Penang among family & good food. What more could i have asked for? :)
